Students and staff took to the walkway between the bus loop and main entry with ample supplies of sidewalk chalk and inclusive messages for our annual Civil Rights Team “Day of Welcome.” The intent is to celebrate and promote the idea that school communities are for everyone, and all the parts of their identities are protected under the Maine Civil Rights Act: race and skin color, national origin and ancestry, religion, disabilities, gender (including gender identity and expression), and sexual orientation.
Our students wrote thoughtful messages in numerous different languages. It was a very cold day, but the sidewalk was full of warm and welcoming words. It was awesome!
