Last year, Alyssa started a Cheer Club for third and fourth grade students. Saccarappa had 40 students participate last year and 54 this year. There were students who were brand new to the sport and a few who had done it previously. The cheer club was open to all students in grades 3-4 and they met once a week for six weeks during recess. Cheer Club was intentionally held during the day so that all students could participate.
The students learned a routine that they performed at the End of Year Family Picnic. This event always gets quite a crowd and this year they performed for the entire school at an end of year assembly as well.
This year, the students asked about pom-poms. Alyssa looked them up online, but the cost was too great, so she started thinking creatively about ways to get them donated. Linda Bois, one of Saccarappa's third grade teachers, gave Alyssa the idea to reach out to the Dallas Cowboys since their colors are blue and white too! Alyssa emailed them on a Sunday morning, and within five hours, they wrote back, saying they would love to help. They sent the school 30 pairs of pom-poms. They also sent a handwritten letter and photos of all of the cheerleaders on the team. The addition of the pom-poms added a lot of excitement to the already cheerful cheer team.
Thank you to the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, and well done, Mrs. Cammack and students!
