Good Morning Congin Cougar Families,
Happy Wednesday! Can you believe that next week is our November break?! This year is certainly flying by, but we have many exciting things happening. Here are some updates:
It's an early release day! Students will be released at 2:30, so please make sure to pick your child up at school or at the bus stop at the appropriate time.
Did you know that a student is considered chronically absent when they have missed 10% of their school year? This equates to roughly 18 days of school. Our attendance is monitored by the DOE, and we get a score each year. Congin staff and I were able to look at our scores from last year, and our chronically absent score put us in the "emerging" category due to 16% of our students being considered chronically absent, which is the lowest category given. I can't stress it enough that students need to be at school, so if your child is healthy without a fever, please send them into school.
That being said, please ensure that students are coming into school by 8:40. Any students entering the school after 8:40 will be considered tardy. Additionally, please make sure that your child is picked up by 3:30 at the end of the day if you are parent pick up.
We are still working on our theme of gratitude, and students are working on earning and giving out gratitude feathers to meet our goal of 300 by the end of the month. We will be having an assembly on December 2nd to roll out our new theme of kindness and to celebrate our work with gratitude.
There will be a Parent Technology Night on Thursday, December 5th at Saccarappa from 6:00-7:00pm for any families that would like to attend. This is an information night for families to find out how to keep your child safe while online. I have attached the flyer for more information.
Just a reminder that we will have no school on November 27th, 28th, and 29th.
Picture retakes will be on December 6th. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you want your child to participate in retakes, as those students will be the only ones getting their picture taken. We should be receiving flyers soon with a new code, so once we get those, we will be sending it home with students.
With many holidays coming up, we know it can be a challenging time for some of our families. At Congin, we try to support as many families as possible. If you and your family need support during the holiday season, please reach out to me (bissonm@westbrookschools.org) or our counselor Chris Woolworth (woolworthc@westbrookschools.org).
I hope you all have a wonderful break and a terrific Thanksgiving. I am truly thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community, so thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child's education and thank you for your continued support!
It's a great day to be a cougar!
Sincerely,
Marc Bisson
